[BBCC x Loka Made] A Journey Through Malaysia

⏰ Trivia Time ⏰

We’re thrilled to announce our latest collaboration with BBCC (Bukit Bintang City Centre KL)! Our team at Loka Made were tasked with the mission to create a mural art inspired by our local heritage and culture for the Malaysia Grand Bazaar (MGB) shopping mall, a project by BBCC.

If you haven’t heard of them, they’re a new artisanal mall and heritage hub located in Kuala Lumpur. They’re your go-to place to experience the best food, handicrafts and cultural performances from all 14 of our nation’s states.

Did you spot us on your last visit to MGB? 👀

If you look closely, you can spot many of our local elements and familiar architecture in the mural. You might even discover something you didn’t know of before! Hehe.

Let’s get a closer look and learn more about our nation’s colourful history.

Did you get it at the start? 😉BBCC is built near the iconic Pudu Jail. It was largely demolished back in 2012, but a portion of it still remains. It’s now part of a park near Lalaport Mall, another project by BBCC.

C. Cak Lempong

Deemed the largest flower in the world! The Rafflesia can grow up to 3 feet wide and weigh up to 11 kg. But it’s a pretty shy flower though 🤭 It takes up to 9 months just to spring from a seed to a pod and it only stays in bloom for a week (maybe less!).

The Terengganu Drawbridge is Southeast Asia’s first tower drawbridge that was officially opened to the public in 2019! The drawbridge was built to help improve traffic in the area and provide a faster route to the airport. It also functions as an observation deck, a restaurant and a gallery.

So, how did Langkawi get its name? Legend says ‘Lang’ was derived from the Malay word helang which translates to eagle in English and ‘Kawi’ comes from the word meaning marble! Though it is a legend, there is some credibility in it as the island is never short of eagle sightings and is known to produce some of the finest grades of marbles.
