A City In a Garden
Singapore — often called the “Lion City” or “Garden City,” the latter comes from its many parks and tree-lined streets. Also known as "instant Asia” as the nation offers a glimpse of diverse cultures brought by immigrants from various parts of Asia.
The island used to be a Malay fishing village inhabited by the indigenous Orang Laut prior to the European settlement.
The Merlion
Singapore's official mascot being the Merlion, a mythical creature with a lion's head and a fish's body.
The lion head represents the country's original name, "Lion City," while the fish body symbolizes Singapore's beginnings as a fishing village, formerly known as Temasek.
The First Prime Minister
The greatly respected Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's first Prime Minister, was a politician and lawyer who governed from 1959 to 1990.
He garnered a long list of incredible achievements while he was developing Singapore. Under his leadership, Singapore successfully became one of the world-leading countries.
