GEORGE TOWN HERITAGE CELEBRATIONS 2026
Taking place in George Town, Penang from 4–7 July 2026, this year’s George Town Heritage Celebrations marks the 18th anniversary of George Town’s inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Under the theme “Kongsi Cerita”, meaning “Share the Story”, the celebration invites communities in George Town to share their stories through food, arts, crafts, songs, traditions, and everyday cultural practices. LOKA MADE is honoured to be part of George Town Heritage Celebrations 2026 as a creative partner, sharing George Town’s living heritage through culture, stories, and creative experiences.

George Town Heritage Celebrations is an annual celebration organised by George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) to commemorate the city’s UNESCO World Heritage Site inscription on 7 July 2008. Held within the streets of the heritage enclave, the celebration features interactive and educational programmes such as workshops, performances, street festivals, and cultural showcases.
Each year, the celebration highlights different aspects of George Town’s intangible cultural heritage, raising awareness of the traditions, practices, and stories that continue to shape the city’s Outstanding Universal Value.

The press conference was successfully held on 6 June 2026, chaired by YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow. This year’s programme features an exciting lineup, including the Street Festival, Historic Building Open House, George Town Heritage Walk, and the Cultural Heritage Hub (CH2) Groundbreaking.
