Perak

Darul Ridzuan

Meaning ‘silver’ in Malay, it is believed that Perak got its name from its tin mining activities and the association to tin colour. The state is also home to one of the oldest rainforest in the world, Hutan Belum, and is believed to have existed for 130 million years!

Taiping Lake Gardens

A peaceful retreat with lush greeneries and scenic waters. It was built in 1880 on a former tin mining site. One can admire nature on well-kept walking paths and diverse flora as they take a leisurely stroll or enjoy a picnic under the sun.

Panglima Kinta Mosque

A token of love. The mosque was built in 1898 by Datoh Panglima Kinta Muhamad Yusuff bin Lassam, the Lord of Kinta, to commemorate his wife - who sadly passed away in the same year. The building boasts Moorish designs and used to be a centre for the spreading of Islam among the local community.

Orang Utan Island

A global eco-tourism destination founded in the year 2000 by the Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation (BMOUIF). One can learn about the endangered Bornean orangutan in Peninsular Malaysia here. You can also find the oldest man-made lake in Malaysia in its vicinity!

Welcome to IPOH

A Hollywood-style sign on a hilltop that you can see from the Kuala Kangsar Road. It was built to commemorate Sultan Azlan Shah’s silver jubilee and to establish Ipoh as a key tourist destination.

Kellie’s Castle

Sometimes known as Kellie’s Folly is an unfinished and ruined mansion in Batu Gajah, built by a Scottish planter, William Kellie-Smith. It is believed to either be a gift for his wife or a home for his son. The castle gives visitors a glimpse into the nation’s colonial history with its unique  Scottish, Moorish and Indian architecture.

Menglembu Groundnuts

Everyone’s nuts about this one! In a small township in the Kinta District lies Menglembu - an area renowned for its groundnuts that were famously cultivated at the base of Kledang hill. It has been commercially farmed since 1945 for brand like Pagoda and Tong Garden.

Taman Negeri Royal Belum

One of the world’s oldest rainforests - believed to be older than the Amazon and Congo! The main highlight of the park is exploring its waterways on traditional wooden rafts, giving visitors a more immersive experience with the lush rainforest and its tranquil lakes.

Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan

Move over, Tower of Pisa! This jewel can be found in Teluk Intan. It was built back in 1885 and stands at 25.2 metres high. The 8-storey high pagoda-like structure was originally built to store water for the dry seasons in case there was a fire.
