Wilayah Persekutuan Malaysia
Literal translation? The ‘muddy confluence’! It is a point where two rivers join and also the name of the murky confluence where the city started from.
Previously named Menara Warisan Merdeka, is the tallest building in Southeast Asia. It combines offices, luxury residences and an impressive observation deck with stunning city views. The building reflects the city’s dynamic growth and future ambitions with its modern and innovative design. It was designed to resemble Tunku Abdul Rahman when he raised his right hand and chanted “Merdeka!”.
Referred to by locals as KLCC, it is a symbol of modern Malaysia. It houses the headquarters of the country’s national petroleum company, Petronas, and was once hailed the tallest building in the world from 1998 to 2004 at a height of 451.9 metres (88-storeys). The towers were officially launched by Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad on 31 August 1999.
Also called the KL Tower! The 421 metre-tall structure is the 7th tallest telecommunications tower in the world. It also houses a centre for cultural and recreational events. The tower’s unique structure stands out as a defining landmark in the KL skyline, making it a memorable sight to see.
Sultan Abdul Samad Building
Found in the heart of Kuala Lumpur! It is a prime example of the nation’s rich history. The building was inaugurated in 1897 and was named after the reigning sultan of Selangor at that point in time. This iconic structure blends Moorish, British and Islamic styles, giving us a glimpse of the nation’s colonial past. Today, it serves as a backdrop for many celebrations and significant events.
Originating as early as 1909, it is widely recognised as the national dish of Malaysia. Its name translates to ‘fatty rice’ but its meaning is closer to ‘creamy rice’. Traditionally served with sambal, ikan bilis (anchovies), peanuts and a hard-boiled egg.
Also commonly referred to as Central Market. It is a lively cultural and artistic centre founded back in 1888 as a wet market. It has since evolved into a vibrant space that showcases Malaysia’s unique heritage through its craft shops, art galleries and street food stalls. You can also find Paper Adventure and Tulis Lukis among many others here!
“Light Rapid Transit” is the vein that connects the heart of Kuala Lumpur. This public transport system helps locals and tourists alike navigate their way across the city. It runs 2 major routes, Kelana Jaya LRT line and Ampang LRT line, and offers passengers panoramic city views.
