Home to some of the oldest archaeological discoveries in Malaysia! Kelantan is famed for its paddy fields, rusting fishing villages, beaches and unique dialect, Baso Kelate.
Gelanggang Seni
A cultural centre located along Jalan Sultan Mahmud that showcases the state’s vibrant cultural heritage. Visitors can experience traditional cultural dances, dance-dramas, kite flying competitions, top spinning and wayang kulit (shadow puppetry) shows here. It is a hub that offers an immersive view of Kelantanese arts, culture and customs.
Palekbang-Kota Bharu Bridge
A 1 km-long bridge that connects Tumpat to Penambang across the Kelantan River. Located in Kampung Laut Heritage Village, it is built to enhance tourism activities by offering improved connectivity and access to local attractions.
Perahu Kolek
Also known as the Kolae boat in English. It is a traditional fishing boat used in calmer waters along the southern provinces of Thailand and the eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. They feature intricate designs that are a blend of Malay, Javanese and Thai styling. Its exquisite craftsmanship and role as an essential tool for fishermen makes it the “artistic masterpiece on waves”.
Gerbang Kota Sultan Ismail Petra
Also known as Menara Rehal. It is a striking archway located in the heart of Kota Bharu, the capital city of Kelantan. It was built in the 1990s to commemorate Kota Bharu’s recognition as a cultural city. The gate leads to a parking area that was once part of Istana Balai Besar, where traditional bull fights took place.
Menara Tinjau Tambatan Diraja
A 150-metre tall observation tower in Kota Bharu built along the Kelantan riverbank that offers stunning 360° views of the town and the river. One can get the full Kelantanese experience in the surrounding area filled with fishing spots and local eateries.
Nasi Kerabu
A vibrant dish and a variant of the nasi ulam that is usually eaten as a breakfast dish. Its signature blue-coloured rice, made with butterfly pea flowers, is served with dried fish or fried chicken along with a hard-boiled salted egg, crackers, pickles, and ulam (traditional local salad), offering a delightful blend of flavors and textures.
