#BuildAMalaysian Our Pandemic Heroes

She’s worked tirelessly since the start of the pandemic! You probably even know her personally. She serves bravely in the frontline as a nurse, lover of life and a passionate caregiver. 

She chose this career path because she genuinely wants to help people. She’s always wanted to give back to the society that nurtured her into the person she is today. To serve and protect is the motto she lives by. 

And in one's darkest moments, her sincere smile is the beacon that carries them through. Her actions are what gives everyone hope that tomorrow will always be a better day. 

Their courage and selflessness is infectious 

They serve valiantly on the frontlines! At the height of a global pandemic, they willingly sacrificed their health, family time and sleep just so we could stay safe at home. They were put under an immense amount of physical, emotional and mental pressure, yet they still charged forward courageously. 

We even had ordinary, everyday Malaysians (maybe even your neighbours!) who stepped up to help others by sacrificing their hard earned money just so someone else could make it through another day. These unsung heroes made up the backbone of the #KitaJagaKita movement.

From helping people to ensuring our physical safety to delivering all our necessities, where would we be without these pandemic heroes?

He’s strong and sometimes intimidating, but he always has a smile on his face when he sees you. He may not be from Malaysia, but he sure does love his daily teh-o limau ais! He’s Mr Syed, the apartment protector who guards his home away from home with all his heart. 

He’s often clad in a crisp white shirt and black trousers. He speaks multiple languages and can probably speak better conversational Bahasa Malaysia than you 🤭 In fact, he adapts to cultures and picks up languages really fast! Going from zero to fluent within days. 

He’s always on the lookout for danger because he wants you to be safe. And he’s always ready to lend a helping hand. Morning, evening or even in the dead of night, he’ll always greet you with a bright smile and brighter eyes. 

  

Full-time delivery guy, part-time neighbourhood celebrity, overall awesome human! He always asks for your photograph before he takes your autograph. He’s Abang Ali and he makes full use of his free time to earn some extra money. 

He knows the streets like the back of his hand. Tell him a postcode and he’ll give you directions for the quickest route there! Rain or shine, he’s always on the grind.

He’s a man of many hats… Or rather, helmets. You’ll find personalities like his delivering your daily mail, parcels, food orders, offering grass cutting services, and more. He braves through traffic everyday to help you save time each day. 

 

Working 9 to 5 on weekdays, working to save lives on weekends. Ramesh believes that our furry friends deserve all the love in the world just like you! 

He’s a humble hero with a heart of gold and a car boot stocked with animal food. He champions the well-being of each and every stray because his idea of ‘sharing is caring’ extends not just to people but animals too.

People like Ramesh exist all around our nation. You’ll find them in various animal welfare NGOs. They inspire kindness and teach us to be kind to earth. 

What goes inside every Malaysian? 

Courage, love and genuine care just like our Pandemic Heroes are just some of their amazing qualities!
